Our St Annes surgery has been awarded silver status in the Feline Advisory Board ‘Cat Friendly Clinic’ scheme. At St Annes there is a designated area for cats in the waiting room, a separate ward for cats in the theatre area, and facilities which pass a rigorous inspection. Veterinary Surgeon at St Annes Jenny Ellis says “We are really excited to have gained this status and hope that cat owners will appreciate the special facilities we have for their pets. All being well I will gain my Certificate in Feline Medicine later this year so we will be able to offer a very special service to our feline clients and their owners!”

We are noticing a higher than normal incidence of parvovirus at our branches in the East Lancashire area. Parvovirus is contagious and may affect dogs of any age. It is often fatal. The first sign seen is usually vomiting, which may be followed by diarrhoea, lack of appetite or lethargy.

Dogs can be protected against parvovirus by vaccination which consists of a course of two injections two weeks apart. In order to remain protected dogs require an annual booster injection.

Claire Batty, Senior Veterinary Surgeon, advises “Parvovirus is a distressing condition and unvaccinated dogs are at risk. We are anxious to ensure that owners are aware of the threat of parvovirus in the area. Anyone concerned should ring theor local branch for advice or for more information about vaccination options.”
